A Lesson in Darkness
by Arpsianism, 2019
Life in the oceans must be a sheer hell.
A vast, merciless hell of permanent and immediate danger. So much of a hell that during evolution some species - including man - crawled, fled onto some small continents of solid land, where the Lessons of Darkness continue.
Werner Herzog, Lessons of Darkness
In 1972 with Aguirre, der Zorn Gottes Werner Herzog made the best movie ever about the wrath of God.Or about Aguirre for that matter. Moreover, his 1976 movie Herz aus Glas provided Blondie with the title for their greatest disco hit. His 1999 Minnesota Declaration Lessons of Darkness is the inspiration for Arpsianism’s series of twelve black-on-black collages A Lesson in Darkness. What’s more, each separate collage draws its title from these Lessons of Darkness.
